Aneesah Morrow, a 6'1 power forward, is making waves in the world of women's basketball. With her impressive performance in Athletes Unlimited, averaging a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds per game, she's a force to be reckoned with on the court. But it's her confidence and authenticity that truly set her apart. Morrow recently signed with Reebok, a move that aligns perfectly with her values and playing style. In this interview, she opens up about her journey, her goals, and the impact she hopes to have on the sport.
The Power of Authenticity
Morrow's decision to join Reebok's roster was an easy one, as she believes the brand embodies her own values. She admires the grit and authenticity of the other athletes on the team, like Angel Reese and DiJonai Carrington. "I feel like it matches me as a player," she says. "They’re themselves, but they also are gritty — and pretty girls, too." Morrow's confidence and trash-talking on the court are a testament to her bold and feisty personality, which she believes is a key part of her success.
A 'Full Circle' Moment
Morrow's connection with Reese goes beyond the court. They played together in college at LSU, and since Morrow signed with Reebok, Reese has reached out to her, calling it a "full circle" moment. They share a mutual admiration for each other's work ethic and impact on women's sports, and they're committed to supporting each other's growth and success.
Expanding Horizons
Morrow's focus this offseason has been on diversifying her game, aiming to become a three- and four-level scorer. She's working on improving her three-point shooting, ball-handling, and finishing at the rim. "I want to be a mismatch nightmare," she says. "I want to be able to guard the two through five and be a dominant force on both ends of the court." Her goal is to be a player that every team has to adjust their defense for, and she's determined to make that a reality.
Leadership and Growth
As the youngest Athletes Unlimited captain, Morrow is embracing her leadership role. She's learning to balance her quiet nature with her desire to lead and inspire. "It’s tough because everyone’s not gonna like you," she admits. "You have to hold people accountable, and you have to be okay with how that goes." Morrow is committed to bringing people along with her on the journey to success, and she's determined to make a positive impact on the sport she loves.
