The album, released late last year, has been hailed as a masterpiece, blending catchy hooks, searing solos, and thunderous rhythms with Jukka’s dynamic vocals.
As the band kicks off their 30th-anniversary year, they’re widely celebrated as one of Finland’s most internationally active metal acts. Their world tour cycle began last year with a North American headline run, and now Europe is next, with FALLUJAH and IN MOURNING joining as special guests.
Formed in 1996 in the coastal town of Karhula, OMNIUM GATHERUM has masterfully blended traditional heavy metal, Gothenburg-style melodic death, and progressive elements, earning the playful label “adult-oriented death metal.” On May The Bridges We Burn Light The Way, founding guitarist Markus Vanhala (also of INSOMNIUM and CEMETERY SKYLINE) aimed to capture the band’s full range—from aggressive growls to melodic harmonies.
And this is the part most people miss: The album is a loose concept piece, narrating “stories from the streets” through the eyes of dreamers, fiends, liars, and wanderers. Tracks like “Walking Ghost Phase” explore addiction and despair, while “Ignite The Flame” celebrates brotherhood and rebellion. In “The Darkest City,” the urban landscape itself becomes a character, reflecting modern chaos.
Recorded in various Finnish studios—some in repurposed industrial spaces with an eerie stillness—Jukka’s vocals were tracked in Sweden with Björn “Speed” Strid of SOILWORK, who co-produced and added gang shouts. Fun fact for gearheads: The vocal tracks were cut on the legendary SSL console used for QUEEN’s Innuendo, adding a touch of rock history. Mixing and mastering were handled by Jens Bogren and Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios.
